Rodney "Steve" Reed

Rodney Steven "Steve" Reed, 74, Dearing, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on January 23, 2025.

He was born in Augusta, Georgia at Eisenhower Medical Center on January 13, 1951, grew up in the Augusta area and graduated from Glenn Hills High School in 1970.

Steve served as a Master Mason and was a member of Richmond #412 Masonic Lodge on January 10, 1983, and was a Mason for 42 years.  He was initiated into Alee Shrine of Savannah Georgia on June 25, 1983, and served for 41 years.  Steven served Alee Shrine as a Potentates Aide for many years serving many Potentates and served as Chief of Staff in 2018.  He received a Merit Jewel Award in 2013 and the Crown of Honor in 2015 among many other awards and honors.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Sims and Anna Lois Sims and brother, Randall Reed.  His survivors include his devoted wife of 42 years Gloria Jones Reed; his son, Michael "Mike" Reed (Alisha) of Dearing, Georgia; his daughters, Alecia Reed (Jeff) of Wrens, Georgia, Kim Norris of Augusta, Georgia and Christun Ward (Danny) of Thomson, Georgia; his brothers, Butch Reed (Pam) of Augusta, Georgia and John Dooley Sims (Sheila) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; his sister, Lynn Smith of Merryville, Louisiana, and multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren and  other extended family.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia. His Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel following the visitation. Please visit www.beggsfuneralhome.net to sign the family's personal guestbook.
