Rodney Richard Hamby

Mr. Rodney Richard Hamby, 89 of Calhoun St., McCormick, South Carolina entered into rest on Friday, April 2, 2021 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 2 pm at Overbrook Cemetery, McCormick, SC.

Mr. Hamby, son of the late Richard and Barbara Carter Hamby was born in Lancaster, PA. on September 4, 1931. He attended Furman University where he played football for the Paladins, and was successful in competitive boxing and weight-lifting. To say that he was an avid sportsman is an understatement. He was proud of the trophies he bagged on hunting expeditions all over the world including his favorite hunting safaris in Kenya.

During his career he was a transportation consultant and later retired from American Airlines as Transportation Director of Fashion & Textiles. Following retirement, he managed Hot Rod's in McCormick.

He is survived by his two children, Cindy Wise of San Antonio, TX and David Hamby of Yardley, PA, 6 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren.

The family would like to thank his devoted caregiver, Tammy Alverson McClain, as well as Stacy, Shannon and Chaplain Kevin with Agape Care of South Carolina.
