Robert Norman Wilson, Jr. entered into rest on August 25, 2017 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Bob was a proud eighth generation resident of McDuffie County and still lived on the family farm. He was a great blessing to his family and the community. A 1969 graduate of Thomson High School, Bob attended the University of Georgia and graduated with a business degree from the Terry College of Business. While at Georgia, Bob was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. For over thirty-five years, Bob was manager and broker of the family owned Wilson Company, a McDuffie County institution since 1950. Bob was also past president of the Classic South Board of Realtors.
Actively involved in community life, Bob was a member of Thomson Rotary Club where he was President and received both the Paul Harris Fellow and the Will Watt Award. He was a member of the Thomson Boat Club where he served for two years as Commodore. Bob also served on the Downtown Development Authority and Camellia Partners for Heritage and Economic Development. He further served as director for the United Way of McDuffie County and was actively involved with the Housing Authority of the City of Thomson where he was chairman of the Board of Directors.
Bob was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Thomson where he held many positions most recently as a member of the Church Council. He was also a very faithful member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. As a member of Boy Scout Troop 125, Bob achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and later became a troop leader. An active member of the Wrightsboro Foundation, Bob served in many capacities including chairman. Bob was the organizer of McDuffie Bank and Trust in 1988 and became the first board chairman when it opened in 1989. In 1998, McDuffie Bank and Trust became First Bank of Georgia where Bob was one of the original directors. For many years, Bob was chairman of the loan committee of First Bank until it merged into State Bank and Trust where he continued to serve on the Augusta Advisory Board. Bob was also an active member of the McDuffie County Chamber of Commerce and a past secretary of McDuffie Hospital Authority.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Cindy, daughters Mrs. Trammell (Ryan) Bright, Mrs. Martha Delle (Scott) Smith, Mrs. Patty Bea (Kempton) Presley, son Dr. Robert N. Wilson, III and eight grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Virginia Wilson, his brother Stewart and his sister Virginia. Bob requested that his body be used for the research of pulmonary fibrosis and, at a later date, that his ashes will be scattered over the fields of his beloved family farm.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 o'clock a.m., Monday, August 28, 2017 at Thomson First United Methodist Church with Reverend Ronny Brannen and Doctor Bob Bowling officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, August 27 th at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia.

The family of Robert Norman Wilson, Jr. will hold a Spreading of the Ashes Ceremony on Thursday, October 5 th , 2017 at 6:30 p.m. This ceremony will take place at the family cemetery located at Marmee's their family homeplace, 1392 Augusta Road, Thomson, Georgia. The Reverend Ronny Brannon will officiate.
The family requests that guests wear comfortable pants or jeans and shoes since the ceremony will take place in the family farm field.
Bob passed away on August 25, 2017, and a Celebration of Life was held at the First United Methodist Church on August 28, 2017.
