Robert Jackson "Jay" Newsome
Thomson, GA- Mr. Robert Jackson "Jay" Newsome, 86, entered into rest October 21, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Thomson Church of God with Rev. Bobby Farmer and Rev. Douglas Butts officiating. Interment will follow in the Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Newsome was born in Warren County, GA and was the son of the late Willis Newsome, Sr. and the late Ruby McGahee Newsome. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in Germany. He owned and operated Thomson Fabric Center for 18 years and retired from maintenance with the McDuffie County Board of Education. Mr. Newsome was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church for many years and most recently attended the Thomson Church of God.
Survivors include his daughters, Levonne Burnett and husband, Frank of Harlem and Janice Brinkley of Thomson; brothers, Willis Newsome, Jr. of Harlem, James C. "Chick" Newsome of Stapleton, Edward E. Newsome of Wrens, Wallace P. Newsome of Kissimmee, Fl and Donald M. Newsome of Thomson, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Mr. Newsome was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn Hobbs Newsome and brothers, Harold F. Newsome and Hodges L. Newsome.
Memorials may be made to the Thomson Church of God, 1354 Wrens Hwy. , Thomson, Ga. 30824.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
