Robert Howard Lacy

Robert Howard Lacy, affectionately known as Rob to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, in McCormick, South Carolina. Born on September 14, 1941, in Burnwell, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Howard Ellwood and Cleo Patricia Prichard Lacy. Rob's life was a testament to his faith, hard work, and the strong bonds of love that he built over his 84 years. Rob's early years were spent in the coal mining community of Chesapeake, West Virginia, a place that would shape his values and work ethic. The small town, with its close-knit community of 1500 people, provided a backdrop to his enduring romance with his future wife, whom he had known since they were both eight years old. Together, they navigated the challenges and joys of life in a pastor and miner's household. Rob carried the lessons of his upbringing with him throughout his life, graduating from East Bank High School with a deep sense of responsibility and community.

After a brief period working in the coal mines, Rob embarked on a career with Dayton Power and Light, dedicating 14 years of service in maintenance at their power plant. The closure of the plant in 1983 was a turning point, leading him to take new opportunities at Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant in Homestead, Florida. His adaptability and resilience were hallmarks of his character, enabling him to thrive in a new environment until his well-deserved retirement in 1999. Retirement allowed Rob and his wife to settle in the serene Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick, where he became an integral part of the Greater Augusta Apostolic Church community. As a board member for over 25 years, he contributed his wisdom and leadership, embodying the faith-filled spirit that defined him. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, and he found solace and joy in singing gospel hymns, a practice that brought comfort to many and showcased his deep connection to his beliefs.

Rob's love for the great outdoors was evident to anyone who knew him. An avid fisherman, hunter, and crossword puzzle enthusiast, he found his greatest pleasure on the tranquil waters, rod in hand, waiting for the next big catch. Fishing was more than a hobby; it was a passion that allowed him to reflect, relax, and connect with nature.

He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Mary Ann DeLong with whom he shared a lifetime of memories, companionship and just celebrated 65 years of marriage on September 16th. In addition, he leaves behind, his sons, Robert Jeffrey Lacy (Susana) of Kendall, Florida and Brian Douglas Lacy of McCormick; brothers, Paul Ray Lacy (Donna) of Virginia Beach, Lowell Maxwell Lacy and Daniel Joseph Lacy both of West Virginia; sister, Beverly Ann Frampton (Denver)  of Lake Butler, Florida; grandchildren, Ryan Robert Lacy (Jessica), Michael James Lacy (Brittany), Emily Sue Lacy and Juliana Grace Lacy; great-grandchildren, Morgan Nicole Lacy, Makenzy Johnson-Lacy and Robert James Lacy. He was preceded in death by his brother James David Lacy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Greater Augusta Apostolic Church, 4406 Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown, GA on Saturday October 4, 2025. A time of visitation with the family will be from 10am – 11am with the memorial service from 11am – 12pm.
