Robert F. "Chigger" Wilkes

Mr. Robert F. "Chigger" Wilkes, 84 of Elam Heights entered into rest on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Goshen Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Wilkes, son of the late William F.  and Annie Viola Wright Wilkes was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County. He was a 1951 graduate of Lincolnton High School, served in the US Army and was employed by the Georgia DOT for over 17 years. Afterwards, he held the office of Lincoln County Surveyor from 1981 until present. He was a member of Goshen Baptist Church and  an avid Georgia Bulldog and  Lincoln County Red Devil football fan. Also, he was known to shoot a pretty good game of pool from time to time. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Archer Wilkes, sister, Carolyn Elizabeth Ryder, and brother, Billy Wilkes.

He is survived by his daughters, Connie Lynn Wilkes, Lincolnton, Brenda Leigh Wilkes and fiancé, Shawn Westphal, Teresa Moroney and husband, Brian, Oxford, Ga.; sons, Jimmy Wilkes and wife, Lucia, McCormick, SC; Sammy Wilkes and wife, Jackie, Atlanta; sisters, Shirley W. May, Thomson and Virginia W. Beasley of Augusta. 6 grandchildren.
