Richard " Rick" Louis Oasen

Richard Louis Oasen died at home on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

Rick was born almost 69 years ago in New Brunswick, NJ. He grew up in Old Bridge, NJ where in high school he discovered photography and model rocketry. At college in Nashua, NH his love of photography grew into a life long profession.  Rick also met his future wife, Maggie at college.  They were married in 1975.

Rick worked at several photo studios in and around Boston before going to work for the Department of the Army at Fort Devens, MA as a civilian photographer. From there he worked for the Department of the Air Force at the Pentagon before finally being assigned as the Chief Portrait Photographer for the Department of the Navy, Washington District.  He spent nineteen years photographing over seven hundred Naval personal, from sailors to the Secretaries of the Navy. Mr Oasen was known for his "Practically Painless Portraits".  His photographs from his career in the Department of Defense are registered and can be seen on the National Archives webpages.

Rick is survived by his loving mom, Doris; his wife, Maggie; his wonderful daughter and fiancé, Brie and Geoff; his extraordinary son and wife, Erik and Sarah; eight terrific grandchildren, William, Jo, Ami, Kat, Elijah, Shepherd, Shylah and Oskar; and two terrific great-grandchildren, Andrew and Juliette as well as many friends and family.

Popper was truly blessed.
