Rebecca "Becky" Smith

Thomson, GA. - Mrs. Rebecca "Becky" Ann Shirah Smith, 72, entered into rest January 25, 2018.

Mrs. Smith, a long-time resident of Thomson, was born in Barbour County, Alabama, the daughter of the late Mancil Shirah and the late Maudie Spivey Shirah. After receiving her Master's Degree from Augusta College, she taught at both Thomson Elementary and J.A. Maxwell schools with 32 years of service with the McDuffie County Board of Education.  Mrs. Smith was an active member of First Baptist Church of Thomson and served on the Bereavement Committee for many years. She loved doing things for others, playing the piano and organ, flower gardening, yard work, and hosting family dinners.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 53 years, Robert L. "Bob" Smith; son, Brad Smith (Laura) of Thomson, GA; daughters, Leigh Smith Glawson (William C. "Tripp") of Macon, GA, Lisa Smith of Harlem, GA, and Lynne Smith Jones (Ryan) of Milledgeville, GA; and 6 grandchildren, Brian Smith, Chase Smith, William C. "Will" Glawson, IV, Callie Ann Glawson, Rebecca Johnson, and Shirah Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 11 o'clock a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2018 in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James C. Elder, Jr. and Rev. David Lambert officiating. A private committal will immediately follow the service at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Smith may be made to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund, P.O. Box 1205, Thomson, GA 30824.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
