Mr. Robert Larry Walton, 73, of Double Branches Road in Lincolnton, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta after an extended illness.
Mr. Walton, son of the late Albert and Ruby Norman Walton, was born in Lincoln County on December 30, 1946 and grew up in the community in which his father was raised. He graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1965. He served his country in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 in the U.S. Army Reserves 319th Transportation Company. After completing his service in Vietnam, he attended Augusta Tech where he received a degree as an electrician and worked as a sawmill supervisor at Georgia Pacific for 38 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, marksman, hunter, and fisherman. Additionally, he enjoyed bluegrass music and cooking for guests at the Little Roy and Lizzy Bluegrass Festival. He was a member of Anthony Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Derwood Walton.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Goolsby Walton; son, Dan Walton of Harlem and daughter-in-law Adrea Walton of Evans; daughter, Dr. LeAnn O'Neill and son-in-law Garrett O'Neill of Augusta; sisters, Marie Walton Poss of Lincolnton and Lena Walton Baston of Bremen; grandson, Ethan Walton of Evans; and mother-in-law L.G. Goolsby of Lincolnton.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at 3 PM at Anthony Chapel United Methodist Church with the family receiving friends after the service near the graveside. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Anthony Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 38, Lincolnton, GA 30817 or to Forces United, 701 Greene St., Augusta, GA 30901.
