Peggy Ann Parton Saggus, a lifelong resident of Lincolnton, Georgia, passed away peacefully in her home on August 10, 2024, at the age of 85.
Born on April 23, 1939, to the late Furman and Lillie Mae Parton, Peggy was a beacon of love and faith, touching the lives of all who knew her with her kindness and grace. Peggy, a graduate of Lincolnton High School, class of 1957, began her career in textiles at Oxford Manufacturing, where her skill as a seamstress and her natural leadership abilities saw her rise to the position of supervisor. Her career spanned several companies, and she continued as a supervisor until her retirement at the age of 70. In her post-retirement years, Peggy's passion for creating and nurturing beauty flourished. She lent her talents to clothing alterations, worked at Jericho Florist, and found joy in crafting cakes that were as delicious as they were beautiful. Her home was a reflection of her meticulous care and love for her family, always kept immaculate. Peggy's hands were rarely still, as she spent countless hours tending to her garden, sewing clothes for her family, and ensuring that her household was a place of warmth and welcome. Peggy's faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a charter member of First Assembly of God, she devoted herself to serving others, whether by preparing meals for the youth or supporting every church function with her attendance. She was always present to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Family was the heart of Peggy's world. She is survived by her loving sons, Mark Saggus and his wife Penny of Washington, Mike Saggus and his wife Amy of Greenwood, and Maury Saggus and his wife Penny of Martinez. She also leaves behind her sister, Myrtle Belangia, her sisters-in-law, Virginia Aycock and Faye Saggus, her grandchildren, Mark Saggus, Ansley Saggus, and Austin Saggus, as well as her great-grandchildren, Carter Saggus, Makenna Saggus, Wesley Saggus, and Rosemary Saggus. Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Jack W. Saggus, her sister, Dean Flanigan, and her brothers, Ray Parton and Johnny Parton. A place close to Peggy's heart was the Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Campground, a site of family and faith founded by her grandfather. She spent every Fourth of July and Labor Day weekend there over the years, embracing the tradition and community that were integral parts of her life. Peggy's legacy is one of unconditional love, kindness, and a faith-filled life. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by the lives she touched. She led by example, showing that a life well-lived is one spent in the service of Jesus, surrounded by family and friends.
