McCormick, SC -- Patricia “Patty” Garrett Henderson, age 83, of McCormick, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest in the presence of her loved ones on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Self Regional Hospital in Greenwood, South Carolina.

Patty was born in Augusta, Georgia, in 1942, but grew up in Milledgeville, Georgia, where she attended Georgia College and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. A fiercely independent woman her entire life, Patty served many roles in her working years, spending time as a stenographer for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as a teacher at Lincoln County High School through retirement, and finally as an ice cream scooper at the beloved Strom’s Drug Store after retirement. Prior to retirement, Patty also received a master’s degree in education from Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. An ever-elegant lady with a penchant for pearls and a good thrifting find, Patty was her family’s favorite phone call and notorious for an honesty and quick wit that was rivaled by none. A self-professed grammar aficionado, Patty loved to read her entire life, and her favorite guilty pleasures included reading about true crime, the Kennedys, and Camelot.

Patty was raised Catholic, and while she could recite the Act of Contrition by heart until her last day, she was an active member of McCormick First Baptist Church. Patty is survived by her adoring husband of almost fifty years, Marion Henderson, her two children, Brandt Vickery and Allison Pittman (Greg Pittman), her grandchildren Kathryn (“Katie”) Reed (Austin Reed), Brandtley Mohr (Harrison Mohr), Cooper Pittman, and Conner Pittman, her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth (“Ellie”) Reed and Brooklyn Reed, and her sisters, Betty Garrett Goodman and Linda Garrett Keown Deal. Patty was loved by many and will be deeply, deeply missed by her loved ones. She was warmly welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Julian Garrett and Mary Elizabeth Garrett.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Overbrook Cemetery located on Cavalier Drive in McCormick, South Carolina 29835. Tommy Henderson, Greg Pittman, Cooper Pittman, Conner Pittman, Austin Reed, and Harrison Mohr will be the pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made in Patty’s honor to the McCormick First Baptist Church at PO Box 416, McCormick, South Carolina 29835.

Strom Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends after the graveside service.
