Ollie Gaines Myers

Mr. Ollie Gaines Myers,   one of Lincoln County's last surviving World War II veterans, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 15 th at Georgia War Veterans Home in Augusta. He was 97 years old.

Mr. Myers, son of the late Pat and Kate McMahan Myers, was born and raised in Lincoln County. He served in the US Army during WWII, and worked at the Bell Bomber Plant in Marietta which produced 100's of B29 bombers during the war.  Following WWII, he worked in the lumber business, and was employed for many years at McCormick Mill where he later retired. He was an avid Lincoln County Red Devils Football Fan and  loved gardening. Until recently, he could still cut a rug.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Luther Myers, James Myers, Rachel Morrison, Mary White, Milford Myers, and Sallie Mae McFerrin.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18 th at 11 am at Beggs Funeral Home,, Lincolnton with Rev. Bobby Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Martins Crossroads Congregational Holiness Cemetery.
