Norma (Sherrer) Combs

Ms. Norma Sherrer Combs, 74 of Martinez, Ga. entered into rest on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Jefferson County Hospital, Louisville.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday October 24, 2021 at 2pm at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.

Ms. Combs, daughter of the late Claude and Mabel Lunceford Sherrer was born on August 1, 1947 in Washington, Ga. She moved to Augusta after completing Greenleaf College in Atlanta. She began her career at Fort Gordon, Ga. as a Military Personnel Records Clerk in the Officer Records Department. Her duties included maintaining the records of Second Lieutenants coming on active duty to attend the Signal Officer Basic Course.

After ten years, Mrs. Norma transferred to work as the Managements Assistant to the Provost Marshal where she spent the next eleven years. Her final role was spent as assistant to the Director of Community Activities before her retirement in 1997 from Fort Gordon.

Following retirement, she was employed at Augusta State University as the Senior Administrative Assistant to the Professor of Military Science.  For 15 years until her retirement two years ago, she worked for Augusta University Medical Center as a Ward clerk for 5 North/5BMT/5 South (Oncology Unit).

She was a very accomplished classical pianist when she was younger of Baptist faith. An avid coffee drinker, with an adventuresome spirit, she travelled internationally and enjoyed spending much of her time away from work at some of her favorite locations of Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head. In addition, she enjoyed attending concerts. Her infant son, Mark Douglas Combs and brother, Allen Sherrer preceded her in death.

She is survived by her loving companion Robert Dispo of Martinez; son, Todd Combs of Martinez; daughter, Krista LaRussa and husband Jimmy of Appling; sister, Betty Smith of Martinez and two grandchildren, Shayla La Russa and Grayson LaRussa.
