Nobie Wansley Keener, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, left us
on August 8, 2023, at home in Monroe, Georgia. She was born to William
(Ike) Wansley and Grace Beard Wansley, on March 11, 1940, in Washington,
Georgia. Nobie was a true southern lady who touched many lives with her
generous spirit, care for others, and delightful sense of humor.
Nobie, spent her early years in Tignall, Georgia, and graduated from
Washington-Wilkes High School in 1958. She was a spirited student, lettering
in basketball and taking part in many school clubs and organizations. After
graduation she attended business school.
Nobie's career spanned many years. She was a legal secretary for Orr and
Kopecky Law Firm in Washington, Georgia and Vaughn and Barksdale Law
Firm in Conyers, GA before spending the majority of her working years with
the Communication Workers of America in Decatur, GA. She was known for
her dedication and professionalism.
In 2001, Nobie and her beloved husband, Hugh Vinson Keener, Sr., returned
to their roots in Tignall, Georgia, in retirement and resided in their renovated
home "Pineheart" for over 20 years before moving to Monroe to be closer to
their sons.
Nobie, a natural volunteer, was greatly involved in her community. She served
on the Tignall City Council and Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce,.
She was a member of the Tignall Baptist Church and the Adult II Sunday
School Class. She was a founding member of the North Wilkes Steering
Committee and belonged to Beta Sigma Phi Eta Omicron Chapter, Iris Garden
Club and The Point Count Bridge Club.
Nobie was mother to three sons- Vince Keener of Monroe GA, Dave Keener
of Nicholls, GA, and Chris Keener and his wife, Angie of Loganville GA and
grandmother to Madison Keener and Nolan Keener of Loganville, GA.
Nobie will always be remembered for her generous spirit and her sincere love,
care, and concern for others.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tignall Baptist Church, 170 S
Hulin Avenue, Tignall GA 30668.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11 am at
Tignall Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in
the church sanctuary.
Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Nobie
Wansley Keener.
