Mrs. Nancy Louise Higgins Kiernan, 82 of Savannah Lakes Village passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, in McCormick, South Carolina.
Daughter of the late Emmett and Alice Murray Higgins, she was born on January 14, 1944, in Boston, Massachusetts where she spent her formative years and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1961. After marrying, she and her husband Joe moved to Miami, Florida, following his career path, beginning a life of travel and new experiences that would eventually take them back and forth to several states including Texas, Florida, and Nevada.
Nancy worked in the medical field as a front desk receptionist and scheduler, where her friendly nature and dependable manner made her a comfort to patients and coworkers alike. She was known for her ability to make people feel welcome and cared for, and she brought that same spirit to every place she served. After moving to Savannah Lakes Village, she volunteered at Helping Hands and continued to give generously of her time and energy to those around her.
After spending 20 years in Las Vegas, she and Joe made their home in Savannah Lakes Village where they have lived for the past 17 years. She was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where she was active in the women’s club and found fellowship in her church family. Nancy had also served on the Power Squadron of Lake Thurmond, volunteered at Helping Hands and was active at the rec center at Savannah Lakes Village. One of her proudest contributions was pioneering the Book Buddies program for kindergarten students at McCormick Elementary School, a meaningful effort that reflected her love of children and her belief in the importance of learning. For years, she also scheduled the “Golf and Gather” couples Sunday afternoon golfing events, helping create opportunities for friendship and community among neighbors and friends.
Nancy had a gift for making a house feel like home. She loved cooking and took great joy in caring for her pets. Over the years, she was devoted to her basset hounds and corgis, and in later years she especially enjoyed the companionship of her cat, Bonnie. Those who knew Nancy will remember her as a friendly and faith-filled woman whose gentle nature touched many lives. She was thoughtful, dependable, and generous in spirit, and she approached life with a quiet dignity that left a lasting impression.
She is survived by her husband Joseph "Joe" Kiernan of McCormick and daughter Annmarie Kiernan of Augusta. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Higgins. A memorial Mass is planned for Monday, August 10, 2026 at 10 o'clock a.m. at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in McCormick, South Carolina.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Good Shepherd Catholic Church Building Fund P.O. Box 1468, McCormick, SC 29835 or to Helping Hands of McCormick.
Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Nancy Louise Higgins Kiernan.
