Mrs. Tyler, daughter of the late Benjamin S. and Mary Lou Cartledge Dozier was born on December 14, 1921 in the Woodlawn/ Leathersville area of Lincoln County. During her early childhood, she attended a one room school in Woodlawn located at Salem Baptist Church and went on to Lincolnton High School where she graduated with honors in 1937.
Soon afterwards, she married Herman Lindsey Tyler and they moved to Tignall where she resided most of her life. During her lifetime, she was employed at Almar Manufacturing, served as a bookkeeper for Dr Clayton and when in her fifties attended nursing school and became a LPN. Until retirement, she worked in Home Health Care.
She was a member of Independence Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher for 40 years and member of the Choir for a number of years. Her hobbies included crocheting and making quilts for her family members.
Mrs. Tyler lived a full life of almost 101 years most of which she was blessed with her independence, living at home with her dog, Charlie until age 97. Her strong constitution, and maybe a little stubbornness were big factors in the longevity of her life.
