Mr. Merrill Webster Callaway, Jr., 79, of Warrenton, Georgia, entered into rest on August 30, 2021.
Mr. Callaway was born in Washington, Georgia on April 12, 1942. He was the son of the late Merrill Webster Callaway, Sr. and Louise Brown Callaway. He grew up in Washington, Georgia and graduated from Washington-Wilkes High School in 1960 and was a graduate of John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in Tennessee. After graduation, he worked in the mortuary business with his father in Warrenton, Georgia. From 1968 – 1992, Mr. Callaway owned and operated M. W. Callaway & Sons Funeral Home in Wrens, Georgia. After retiring, he started Callaway Auto Recovery Service and did that for a number of years. Merrill was a member of the Wrens Lions Club and was a Volunteer Wrens Firefighter. He was a member of Warrenton First Baptist Church, Warrenton, Georgia. Mr. Callaway enjoyed listening to gospel music and attending gospel singings, had a compassion for the needs of others was a quiet faithful servant of the Lord. He had a passion for antique automobiles, loved animals, loved tending his farm in Warrenton, Georgia and his home in the North Georgia Mountains, and especially loved his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill Webster Callaway, Sr. and Louise Brown Callaway and his son, Merrill Jeffery Callaway. Mr. Callaway is survived by his sons, Michael Callaway (Melissa) of Warrenton, Georgia, Mark Callaway (Michelle) of Warrenton, Georgia and Chris Callaway (Rosella) of Stapleton, Georgia; his brother Doug Callaway (Gayle) of Warrenton, Georgia, and his grandchildren, Chanler Callaway, Wyatt Callaway and Connor Callaway; his nieces, Christy Hinton (Jay) and Ashli Callaway and several great nieces and one great-great niece. The family would like to gratefully thank Judy Kent for her unwavering faithful support and care of Mr. Callaway during the past years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at Beggs Funeral Home from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Warrenton First Baptist Church, Warrenton, Georgia at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Brandon Furr and Rev. Paul Reviere officiating and the interment following in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson, Georgia. The pallbearers for the service are Byron Crutchfield, Baylor Crutchfield, Palmer Hadden, Pete Bales, Josh Brooks and Perry Hobbs.
