Mary L. Jones

Mary Lucious Jones, affectionately known as MaeMae or Sugar Girl, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, at the age of 87 in Augusta, Georgia. Born on September 4, 1938, in Lincoln County, Mary was the cherished daughter of the late Grover and Vera Turman Jones. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, faith, and a commitment to family and community that remained steadfast from her childhood home to her final days. Raised in the nurturing embrace of Harmony Baptist Church, Mary's spiritual foundation was laid early on. Her faith was her compass, guiding her through life's journey. She was a beacon of service within her church, where she held the roles of Secretary/Treasurer and head of the hostess committee with grace and dedication. Her contributions were instrumental in helping her son build the fellowship hall, a testament to her selflessness and love for her church. She began her education at Harmony Baptist and continued at First Baptist Church School, walking a few miles each day to attend. Her love for learning was matched by her love for serving others, a calling she embraced wholeheartedly as she began working for the family of Harvey and Rachel Guillebeau in the 1960s.  She took care of every need and want for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She served as a motherly figure to the Guillebeau family, and set a path to serve the community of Lincolnton as those generations grew.  She could be seen working at Maggie's Country Cupboard, Over the Rainbow Playschool, Soap Creek Restaurant, and cooking honey bun cakes for the town. Mary loved visiting the "center" each week to interact with the senior citizens of Lincoln County.  She was kind-hearted, loved the Lord, and lived each day spreading kindness and love to anyone she encountered. While her presence here on earth will be missed, we have no doubt she will be waiting for us in Heaven.

Her home and church were canvases for her creative expression, adorned with decorations for every occasion. Her meticulous nature was evident in every aspect of her life and her home was a reflection of her tidiness.

Her legacy is carried on by her loving son Kenneth "Kenny" Trammell, her bonus son Jesse Wynn, and her grandson Kenny Thompson of Macon. She is also survived by her sisters Sue Stephens of Augusta and Nazola Green of North Augusta, SC. Her funeral will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church with the interment following in the church cemetery.
