Mary Edna Edmunds

Mrs. Mary Edna Willis Edmunds, affectionately known as Mary Edna, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, at the age of 92, in McCormick, SC, where she was also born on August 27, 1932.

Her funeral is planned for Sunday, March 30, 2025 at McCormick First Baptist Church at 3:00 PM with the visitation from 2:00 PM until the time of the service in the Maude Morgan Parlor of the church.  A private interment will be at the Overbrook Cemetery.

Mary Edna was the beloved daughter of the late Manley and Daisy Lindley Willis. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Clyde Edmunds, and her grandson, Lars Edmund Banks. Her legacy continues through her son, Barry Edmunds and his wife, Ruthie, of Abbeville, SC; her daughter, Melanie E. Banks, of McCormick; her sister, Francina Prince of Parksville, SC; her grandchildren, Allistar Banks, Jennifer Edmunds Nelson, and Marianna Edmunds Fleming; and her great-grandchildren, Knox Fleming and Madeline Nelson. Her early education began at John De La Howe, where her mother served as the assistant librarian. When she was in high school, Mary Edna transferred to McCormick High School where she graduated as valedictorian and went on to receive a voice scholarship to Lander College. Her college career was brief, as she chose to marry the love of her life, Clyde, after one year of study. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and song. Mary Edna's professional life was as varied as it was impactful. She worked for McCormick Mill for 18 years as a secretary, where her efficiency and warm demeanor were greatly appreciated. She then served as the secretary for the McCormick County School Follow Through Education System, where she supported the education of countless children. Later, she became the administrative assistant for McCormick County EMA, demonstrating her commitment to the safety and well-being of her community. Also, she was a faithful member of A.R. Presbyterian Church in McCormick. Her voice, once nurtured by a college scholarship, found a home in the church choir, where she uplifted many with her singing. Mary Edna's interests were a reflection of her vibrant personality. She had a passion for shopping, always on the lookout for the perfect gift or a special treat for herself. Her flower garden was a splash of color that brought joy to everyone who saw it, and her green thumb was evident in the beauty she cultivated.

One of the many stories that capture Mary Edna's spirit involves a day when her car was not available. When she wondered how she would get to work, her husband, ever practical, suggested she take his pulpwood truck. Without hesitation, Mary Edna did just that, driving the large vehicle to her job with the same determination that she approached everything in her life.
