Mary Will Beard, a cherished educator, and lifelong resident of Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, in Augusta, GA. Born on January 22, 1945, in Athens, GA, to the late Alton Meredith and Mary Will Teat Beard, Mary's warmth and wisdom touched many throughout her remarkable life. Mary's early years were spent in the nurturing environment of her hometown, where she developed a love for learning and a passion for imparting knowledge. She graduated with honors from Norcross High School in 1963, setting the stage for her lifelong commitment to education. Mary continued her academic journey, earning a bachelor's degree in 1967, which paved the way for her distinguished career in teaching. Mary dedicated herself to the Gwinnett County Board of Education, where she taught high school with a rare blend of discipline and compassion. Her students were not just recipients of her vast knowledge but also the beneficiaries of her genuine care and mentorship. Mary's influence extended beyond the classroom as she actively participated in various educational associations, contributing to the advancement of teaching practices and the enrichment of her community. Mary's legacy is carried on by her loving family, including her aunt, Patricia Adams, and numerous cousins who were inspired by her grace and fortitude and her infectious laugh. Her joyful spirit will also be fondly remembered by her beloved dog, Boo Boo, who was a constant companion and source of comfort. Mary's life was a testament to the power of education and the impact one person can have on the lives of many. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her teachings, kindness, and the memories shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. Mary Will Beard's story is not one of an end but a beautiful chapter in the lives of all who knew her, a narrative of love, dedication, and the enduring strength of family ties.
A celebration of life is planned for Friday, June 14, 2024 at 3:30 PM graveside at Pierces Chapel Cemetery.
