Luther Blackburn

Mr. Luther Blackburn, 90, of Lincolnton, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at his residence.

Mr. Blackburn was born on January 28, 1936, in Lincolnton, Georgia, the son of the late James B. “Jim” and Alma Fendley Blackburn. He was born, grew up, and lived his entire 90 years on his family’s farm in the Midway Community of Lincoln County, a place he loved and called home throughout his life. Luther was a man deeply rooted in the land, in his family, and in the simple, steady values that shaped his long and faithful life.

He was married to the former Fannie Holsenback for 67 years, and their marriage was a beautiful testimony to enduring love, devotion, and companionship. With the exception of Jesus, Luther loved his wife and family dearly, and his life was centered around the people and the faith that mattered most to him.

Luther was a good man, a soft-spoken man, and one who offered good advice in the most humble way. He was a fine example of a Christian man who loved Jesus Christ and sought to live his faith in a quiet but powerful manner. He and his wife attended church whenever the doors were open, and he was a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church while faithfully attending Beulah Baptist Church. His faith was not merely spoken, but lived out in the way he treated others, the way he worked, and the way he witnessed to those around him.

Recently, while hospitalized, Luther continued to share his faith with everyone who entered his room. He wanted everyone to be saved, even the people in the cars passing by his window. In his last days, he told his daughter that he was waiting in line for Jesus to tell him what work he needed to do, and he said that we all have to work. Those words reflected the heart of a man who understood service, purpose, and the hope of eternal life.

Luther learned the value of hard work while growing up with nine siblings, and he began working at an early age, likely around 13 years old. In his younger years, he worked in sawmilling during a time when mules and difficult equipment were part of the daily labor, and the work demanded strength, endurance, and determination. He later worked at Knox Mobile Homes for 20 years before driving a log truck for Reed Logging, Thomas Goolsby Trucking and Dawkins Logging. He retired from Henderson Logging after a lifetime of dependable, honest labor. He was always known as a hard worker and someone others could count on.

When Luther found time for hobbies, his interests often still reflected the life he loved. If he was doing something that did not involve work, it was probably fishing and enjoying a fish fry after a good catch. When he was home from work, he could often be found gardening. He grew watermelons, cantaloupe, squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, blueberries and even won a contest once for raising the largest watermelon in the county. Also, he raised cattle, cared for horses, and in later years raised goats. He found contentment in the blessings God placed before him and was always willing to share what he had with others.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie Holsenback Blackburn; daughters, Anne Austin and husband David of Bonham, TX, Debra Guin and husband Jay of Washington, GA; sons, Roy Blackburn of Augusta and Leon Blackburn; grandchildren, Thomas Jay Guin, Justin Lewis Guin, Jacob Ryan Guin, Christopher Deuback, Tylor Austin Blackburn; great- grandchildren, Jackson Guin, Carley Guin, Weston Guin, and Wren Guin.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, James Allen “JB” Blackburn, Ina B. Colley Trowell Pitman, Gladys B. Lewis, Tom “Tucker” Watson Blackburn, Leonard Blackburn, Paine Olalene Harrell, Harvey Blackburn, Frank Blackburn, Elizabeth “Lizzie Bess” Lewis and great- grandchild Adalyn Blackburn.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Beulah Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
