Mrs. Lizzie L. Mercier, 87 longtime resident of Mercier Rd., Lincolnton passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
She was born on February 16, 1939 in Greenwood, South Carolina to the late Celonia Jones Mims and Sam Mims. Lizzie attended the Lincoln County School System. She was raised by Bill Sapp and Aleene Freeman after her mother died when Lizzie was a year and a half old. Lizzie married the love of her life Ollie Mercier on December 30, 1956. Together they had six children, during their 62 years of marriage. Lizzie loved to sew and worked 20+ years at Oxford until she retired.
She was a dedicated and baptized Jehovah's Witness. She loved her family and cooking. She was an avid baseball fan and loved her Atlanta Braves. Lizzie loved being surrounded by her family, even when she was not feeling her best. She had a deep love for gardening and flowers, and she never met a piece of jewelry she did not adore. She was a classy lady with impeccable style, timeless grace, and a presence that left a lasting impression.
Lizzie Mercier leaves five children to cherish her memory: John (Alma) Mercier, and Jacqueline (Willie) Murray, all of Lincolnton, GA; David (Cynthia) Mercier, of Washington, GA, Ollie Ronnie (Demestrus) Mercier of Rayle, GA; and Linda (Scott) Messenger of Charlotte, NC. and two sisters, Betty Gresham (James) of Baltimore, MD, Ruby Smith Parks of Greenwood, SC, one brother Michael Mims of Lincolnton, GA and one brother-in-law, Burch Mercier, of Lincolnton, GA. Eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson mourn the loss of their Grandma: Tania (Travis) Hall, Cortney (Shawn) Davis, Johnterra (April) Mercier, Brandon Elam, Ashton (Craig) Jones, Blake Murray, Ryan (Virginia) Mercier, Colbi Murray, Hannah (Dakota) Kasal, Andrew Elam, and Ryanna (Austin) Klesel (grandchildren); Makala Mercier, Alicia Hall, Alexus Hall, Tabitha Hall, Caitlin Drake, JaMarion Elam, Chase Elam, Harmonee Mercier, Ariana Velez, Jax Mercier, Z. Crystalee Elam, Cash Jones, Caia Jones, Daniella Mercier, Bexlee Murray, Wynter Klesel (great-grandchildren); Mateo Perry (great-great-grandson) and a host of nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Mercier; one daughter, Leomia Mercier Elam; and one granddaughter, Crystal Rochelle Elam; brothers Paul Mims, Robert Lee Mims, Milton Mims, William Freeman and Luckey Freeman; sisters, Lena Freeman Anderson, Leila Freeman Smith Bobbie Jean Mercier, and Emily Mims Rappley.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 5pm until 7pm at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton.
The memorial service for Lizzie Mercier will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Washington, GA, on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 1 o’clock p.m. with repast arrangements following. Friends and family are invited to attend.
Memorial arrangements have been entrusted to Beggs Funeral Home, 200 May Avenue, Lincolnton, GA, 30817.
