Linda Lu Taylor

Mrs. Linda Lu Taylor passed away peacefully in Lincolnton, Georgia, on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on January 21, 1940, in Salem, Ohio, Linda was one of six children graced to the late Eldon and Marjorie Whinery. Her vibrant spirit and warm heart touched the lives of all who knew her. Linda's journey began in the quaint surroundings of Guilford Lake, where her passion for music blossomed at the tender age of 11, with the violin becoming an extension of her soul. Her dedication to the craft led her to perform with the Youngstown Symphony for two years, a testament to her talent and discipline. In 1961, she embarked on a new chapter of her life, marrying and relocating to Rochester, NY. Linda's quest for knowledge and her desire to serve others led her to Florida State University, where she earned her master's degree in clinical social work in 1986. Professionally, Linda dedicated herself to the field of geriatric social work, making a significant impact at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro, NC. Her contributions to the field were so profound that they were mentioned in the book "Unspeakable" by authors Hannah Jayne and Susan Burch. Upon her retirement, Linda continued to share her love for music by teaching violin and became a cherished member of the First Assembly of God Church in Lincolnton, Georgia. Linda's life was enriched by her beloved family. She is survived by her son, Mitchell Taylor of Port Charlotte, Florida; her daughter, Jennifer Gibson of Lincolnton, Georgia; and her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her legacy is also carried on by her siblings, Carl Whinery of Homeworth, Ohio, Cheryl Barber of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Amanda Whinery of Oxford, Ohio, all of whom will miss her deeply. A woman of faith, Linda lived her life with Christian principles guiding her every step. Her interests were as varied and colorful as her personality. She cherished her cat Oscar, found solace in the company of animals, and delighted in the simple pleasures of walking on the beach, strolling through parks, immersing herself in the wonders of the Atlanta Aquarium, the beauty of art museums and the Raysville Fireworks Show.. Linda will always be remembered as loving, funny, and spirited. Her laughter was infectious, her advice was sought after, and her presence was a comfort to many. She lived her life fully, with a sense of purpose and joy that was evident to all who had the pleasure of crossing her path.
