Mrs. Linda Garrett Keown Deal

McCormick, SC -- Linda Garrett Keown Deal, age 79, of McCormick, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 2nd after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.Linda was born in Augusta, Georgia, on March 16, 1947, to the late Julian Garrett and the late Mary Elizabeth Garrett. She was raised in Milledgeville, Georgia, and was a proud graduate of Baldwin High School. She went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree from Georgia College, a master’s degree in education from Lander University in South Carolina, and a specialist degree in education from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee.Linda was a beloved teacher at Long Cane Academy in McCormick for several years before joining the faculty of Lincoln County Elementary School in Lincolnton, Georgia, where she taught first grade until her retirement. She was also a licensed funeral director for Strom Funeral Home in McCormick for over 40 years.Known for her warm smile and infectious laugh, Linda made friends easily and was loved by all who knew her. She loved every type of animal, but was known especially for her love of Boston Terriers. A self-professed shopaholic, Linda’s closet was rivaled by none. Although she sometimes complained about it, her cooking skills were unmatched. She loved the city of Charleston, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, and catching up with friends near or far. Mostly, she loved her family, and spending time with them was her favorite thing to do.Linda is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Ronnie Deal, her two children, Chad Keown (Ashley), Mandi Keown Peebles (Scott), her grandchildren, Haley Keown, Savannah Peebles and Cailin Peebles, and her sister, Betty Garrett Goodman. She is predeceased by her sister, Patty Garrett Henderson, and her parents, Julian and Mary Elizabeth McGrath Garrett.

A woman of extraordinary beauty, strength and grace, Linda was a force of nature who will be immeasurably missed by those who were lucky enough to know her.A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 4, at McCormick First Baptist Church at 11:00am.Pallbearers will be Bruce Deal, Scott Goodman, Marion Henderson, Scott Peebles, Blake Storey, Roy Wood and Brandt Vickery.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Linda to the Humane Society of McCormick, PO Box 900, McCormick, South Carolina, 29835.The family will receive friends at the church after the service. A private burial will be held at Overbrook Cemetery. Strom Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
