Levi Schmidt

Wilbur Levi Schmidt, known affectionately as Levi by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2023, at his home in Lincolnton, Georgia. Born on March 19, 1946, in Farmville, Virginia, Levi's journey through life was marked by dedication, warmth, and an unquenchable zest for life. Levi grew up on a dairy farm in the beautiful foothills of Virginia, where he learned the values of hard work and integrity. He carried these values throughout his life, beginning with his education at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. After graduating, Levi's strong work ethic quickly led him to a successful career with UPS. Starting as a driver, his leadership skills shone through, and he ascended into management before his 24th birthday. Levi's remarkable ability to lead and inspire others was evident as he managed UPS Centers in major Virginia cities, including Richmond, Lynchburg, and Alexandria, overseeing as many as 120 employees. Upon retiring from UPS, Levi embarked on a second career with Orkin Pest Control. Over the course of 26 years, he managed branch offices across the Southeast, from Lynchburg, Virginia to Charleston, South Carolina, and from Macon, Georgia to his final position in Augusta where he retired in 2007. Levi's passion for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. In his younger years, he was an avid softball player, a sport that brought him great joy and camaraderie. His love for sports continued as he moved to the Maxim community of Lincoln County approximately 23 years ago. There, he became a familiar face at Rocky Branch Golf Club, where he was not only a member but a friend to all on the course. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cookie Simons Schmidt. His legacy lives on through his son, Greg Schmidt, and daughter-in-law, Alyce, of Richmond, Virginia. Levi was a cherished brother to Naomi Hubbard and Barbara Goodrich, and brother-in-law to Maxine Cleckley whose memories of him will be treasured forever. Levi's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the impact one individual can have on the lives of many.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 11 am at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton with visitation beginning at 10 am at the funeral home.
