Leon B. Newsome, Sr.

Thomson, GA- Mr. Leon B. Newsome, Sr., 81, of Shields Pond Rd., entered into rest June 4, 2016.

Mr. Newsome grew up in Warren County, GA, but lived in McDuffie County most of his life. He was the son of the late Leroy Newsome and the late Maggie Dye Newsome Dunaway. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was retired from Temple Inland after 23 years of service. He was a gunsmith and enjoyed dove hunting. Mr. Newsome was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church, Thomson.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Azalia Reese Newsome; son, Leon B. Newsome, Jr. (Vickie); granddaughters, LeAnne Gregg (Karsten), Dawn Newsome; and great grandchildren, Conner Lee Newsome and Levi Gregg.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock p.m., Sunday, June 5 ^th at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Holbrook officiating. Interment will follow at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call the residence of Leon and Vickie Newsome, 3514 Whiteoak Rd.,  Thomson or from 2 until 3 p.m., Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church prior to the service.
