LaVina Mae Glaze Marlow passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, at the age of 87 in Evans, Georgia. Born in the warmth of her grandmother's historic home on the Glaze Farm in Lincolnton, Georgia, on June 2, 1937, she was the cherished daughter of the late Frank and Lois Dawkins Glaze. Her birthplace, constructed by her Dallis ancestors around 1800, always held a special place in her heart, as did the farm that had been part of her family's heritage since 1864. LaVina grew up in Lincolnton where she embraced community life and a love for her church from a young age As a teenager, she worked at Willingham's 5&10. A graduate of Lincolnton High School in 1956, she furthered her education by attending the University of Georgia, preparing her for a life of dedicated service to others. During the Vietnam War, LaVina worked for the Selective Service in Lincoln, Wilkes, and McDuffie Counties, a testament to her commitment to her country. Her service continued as she became a secretary for the US Army Corps of Engineers at Clarks Hill Dam, and later at Russell Dam where she eventually retired. Not one to settle into a quiet life, she continued to work at Ft Gordon for a couple of years and at H&R Block in Lincolnton for many years following. Her passion for work was such that she retired at least three times, each time finding a new way to contribute to her community. A couple examples would be working the polls during election season as well as substitute teaching in the local school system. LaVina was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman - loving, kind, and faith-filled. Her life was a testament to her loving, giving, and serving spirit. She invested her heart and soul into the ministries at Lincolnton Baptist Church, where she had been a steadfast presence from the age of 14, however, she was on the cradle roll as an infant. LaVina's devotion to teaching children's Sunday School classes, singing in the choir, leading GA's and Mission Friends, and assisting with Vacation Bible School spanned decades. She was always ready to support church gatherings in preparing delicious dishes. Her commitment to community service extended beyond the church doors. Lavina was a charter member of the Lincolnton Historical Society, where she remained active in preserving local heritage. She dedicated time to collect for the March of Dimes and Easter Seals and served as a Den mother for Cub Scouts Pack 23 for many years. Her generosity knew no bounds, as reflected in the thousands of tams she crocheted as baby gifts for countless families. When she did take a moment to relax, LaVina found joy in playing the piano, a pastime that brought her great pleasure. Her music was yet another way she expressed her love and care for those around her. In addition to her parents, LaVina was preceded in death by her loving husband, James B. "Buddy" Marlow, and her sister, Frankie Phillips. She is survived by her sons, James Marlow of Atlanta, Stoy Marlow and wife, Donna, of Rincon and Floyd Marlow and wife, Geni, of Lincolnton, her sister, Sara Beth McGee and husband, Sonny of Appling, grandchildren, Tyler, Joshua (Elizabeth), Jackson (Cason), Zachary, Parker, Carson, Bailey, Dallas, and Hogan, great grandchildren, Evan and Finley and a host of nieces and nephews. LaVina's legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her unwavering commitment to her faith, family, and community will be remembered as a beacon of light and an inspiration to all. LaVina Mae Glaze Marlow's life was a beautiful melody of service, compassion, and grace. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we celebrate the indelible mark she left on our lives and the community she so dearly loved. Her memory will be treasured forever as an example of a life well-lived, dedicated to the service of others and the glory of God.
