Thomson, Georgia - Larry Dutton Meier, 73 of Wrens Highway entered into rest February 28, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2012 from the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Bahlow officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Meier Family Cemetery, 3633 Wrens Hwy., Thomson, Georgia.
A native of Abilene, Kansas, Mr. Meier had lived in Columbia and McDuffie Counties for over 20 years. He was retired after a full career with the U. S. Corps of Engineers, where he started as a ranger with Table Rock Lake in Branson, Missouri and was promoted to Lake Resource Manager with Lake Shelbyville in Shelbyville, Illinois. Mr. Meier moved to Atlanta Georgia, where he served in the South Atlantic Division office, worked for a short period with the Tennessee Valley Authority in Norris, Tennessee and finally moved to Augusta, Georgia where he served as Lake Resource Manager at Thurmond Lake Reservoir until he retired in 1995. He was a Episcopalian by faith.
Mr. Meier was a loving and kind husband, father and son-in-law. He will be forever missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his daughters, Dee Newton and husband, Sam, Grovetown, GA, Marla Lockhart and husband, Charles, Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandsons, Ross Newton, Tripp Boyd and Walker Boyd; sisters, Lynn Miedke and husband, Phil, and Mary Bronson; his mother-in-law, Waneta Lovitt, Martinez, GA; fiance', Paula Adams and beloved friends, Robert and Rosa Hunt, Thomson, GA. Mr. Meier was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay Lovitt Meier.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday evening at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Rd., Thomson, Georgia 706-595-4100.
