COURTESY OBITUARY
On Thursday evening, October 15, 2026, Jamie Head ran into the arms of Jesus after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. He was 54 years old and died peacefully at home on Sandtown Road in Washington surrounded by his family and close friends.
Larry James Head, Jr. was born at Dekalb General Hospital in Atlanta on February 12, 1972, to Larry James Head, Sr. and Sherry Lee Hewatt Head. Jamie grew up in Loganville until his family moved to Wilkes County, the place he always called home, in the late 1980s.
To know Jamie was to know a genuine country boy—simple, honest, and as dependable as they come. Following in his father’s footsteps after graduating from Washington-Wilkes High School, he built a life through hard work in construction. Jamie believed in doing things the right way, never taking shortcuts, and bringing his best effort to everything he touched. Of all his endeavors, his greatest passion was tending to his farm.
In 2000, Jamie gave his heart to the Lord at a tent revival in Tignall. He was baptized at Fishing Creek Baptist Church and faithfully attended Fortsonia Baptist Church in Elberton.Jamie and his wife, Lori Bailey Head, shared a deep love and respect for one another. While they were not blessed with children of their own, their home and hearts were always open. They poured their love into the children of their friends and family, treating them as their very own and taking great pride in watching them grow.
Jamie lived a life filled with gratitude, never taking for granted the love of his family or the help of a good friend. He will be remembered for his steadfast heart, his hard-working hands, and the quiet kindness he extended to everyone around him.
Jamie is survived by Lori, his wife of 21 1/2 years, of the home; mother, Sherry Hewatt Head of Washington; sister, Carey Streetman of Washington; parents-in-law, Elaine and Lewis “Bull” Bailey of Elberton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Laci and Patrick Adams of Elberton; niece and nephews: Brittany and Josh Carstens of Washington, Dylan and Tiffany Streetman of Elberton, and Haven Adams of Elberton; several great-nephews and niece; and a host of other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Larry James Head, Sr.
The family is at the home and will receive friends on Saturday, October 17, from 5:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home, 1265 Washington Highway, Elberton.
Jamie’s life will be celebrated during a funeral service on Sunday, October 18, at 2:00p.m. at Fortsonia Baptist Church, 2616 Washington Highway, Elberton, with the Revs. Andrew Danals and Bobby Baston officiating. Music will be provided by Mark Adams, Garrett Baston, Jeff Ledbetter, and Al McCall.
Graveside service and burial will follow in the Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 1762 Sandtown Road, Washington, where he will be laid to rest with his father. Rev. Roy Cates will officiate.
