A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. at St Paul United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the church social hall until the time of the service.

Mr. Powell, son of the late Courtney James and Mila DeHart Powell was born in Stambaugh, Michigan. Until age 15, he lived in Powell County, Kentucky when his family moved to Wildwood, Florida where Kenny graduated from high school in 1959.  Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Gordon. Shortly after moving to Augusta, he was discharged from the army after receiving an injury and went to work as a mechanic at Coleman Motors which was the first Volkswagen dealership in Augusta.  He later worked at Continental Can as a millwright. During his career of almost 40 years, Continental Can was acquired by several other corporations and was known as International Paper when he retired.

Kenny, or Ken as he would always introduce himself, enjoyed life to the fullest and was always complemented for never looking his age. He was a VW expert and for many years built VW racing engines and had a faithful following of customers.  In recent years, he restored a VW for many of his family members. In addition to eating, sleeping and breathing VW, his other interests included collecting and restoring old gas pumps, drink boxes and collecting old signs or any gasoline related memorabilia. He was an avid NASCAR fan which began at the first race held in Daytona on the beach in 1959. Through the years following his favorite driver, Terry Labonte, he had been to Daytona Speed Week for 30 consecutive years. He also spent extended periods of time at his Southern Comfort Camp in Indian River, Michigan where he cherished the friendships that he had made over the years. He and his wife Jackie had traveled to 49 States and all of the Provinces of Canada that border the USA. As active as he always was, when he relaxed, he enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour books.

Survivors include his wife Jackie Ferguson Powell; daughter, Beverly Kay "BKay" Leopard and husband Chris; son, Gregg Powell; daughter-in-law, Tonnia DeBord; the mother of his children, Shannon Hardy Mitchell; brothers, Douglas Powell, Darrell Powell, Dennis Powell; sisters, Janice Teasley, Debbie Moore, Bonnie Ward, Barbara Weekley, and Judy Dalrymple;  grandchildren, Jefferson Herrington, Beverly Williamson, Courtney Powell, and Cole Powell; numerous extended family and many cherished friends.
