Joseph "Joe" M Hogan, Sr.

Mr. Joseph Marion Hogan, Sr., affectionately known as Joe by family and friends passed away peacefully at his home in Lincolnton, Georgia, on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the age of 68. Son of the late Thomas Beck Hogan Jr. and Dorothy Estes Hogan, Joe was born on October 3, 1956 in Augusta, GA.   A lifelong resident of Lincolnton, Joe's roots ran deep in the community. He joined Lincolnton Baptist Church as a child and was a member of the Boy Scouts in which he worked diligently to attain the rank of Eagle Scout. A 1974 graduate of Lincoln County High School, Joe continued his education at University of Georgia obtaining his Bachelor's degree shortly afterwards attending Augusta College he received his Master's Degree in Education and he later received his Specialist's Degree from Lincoln Memorial University.

Joe's professional path began in his youth, working at Central Supermarket and on the family farm. After marrying, he spent eight years in the dairy business. He went on to teaching in Greenville, Georgia and Richmond County Alternative School, followed by a short time at Glenn Hills High School, until he returned to Lincolnton where he taught Industrial Arts and later Computer Science. Joe understood that he was the embodiment of fun. An amiable man, he enjoyed the simple pleasure of a drink, always offering a friendly smile and a spirited conversation. His presence was a delight, and it was always a pleasure to be in his company. Joe's sense of humor was infectious, and his friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in every circle he was part of.

Joe is survived by his wife of 47 years, Suzan Bodie Hogan, and their two sons, Joseph M. Hogan and his wife Meagan, and William Beck "Billy Beck" Hogan and his wife Amanda. Joe took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Trudie, Morgan, Clementine, Hank, and Maedrey Hogan. He is also remembered by his brother, Thomas B. Hogan III and his wife, Nancy of Greenville, SC. Joe's life was enriched by the companionship of his beloved dog, Mable. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William Estes Hogan and John Robert Hogan. A funeral service is planned for Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Beggs Funeral Home followed by the interment in the Lincolnton City Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, February 12, 2025 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Beggs Funeral Home.
