Joe Edward Cawley, Sr. was born on November 15, 1945 and died on November 18, 2016.
He was a member of the Youth Senior League Georgia State Championship Bowling Team in 1961. He was a proud member the Butler High School Graduation Class of 1963.
He served on active duty in the U. S. Navy Reserves in 1967-68. He is proud of his Czech and Texas Heritage. His hobbies included genealogy, photography and he sang Karaoke under the name of "Josie" all over the Augusta area. He also did auto racing photography and journalism for several race tracks, organization and publications. He was a member of the Augusta International Raceway Preservation Society and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from them in 2012, and also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the group and President. He was also a Historian for the Georgia Auto Racing Hall of Fame. He also served as Photographer for the National Vintage Racing Association.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Ida and Newton Cawley, Joe and Bertha Kostiha Cawley; his wife, Linda Cawley; father, Tom Cawley and nephew, Charlie Cawley.
He is survived by his son, Joey Cawley; mother, Mary Frances Kostiha Cawley; brother, Frank Cawley as well as uncles aunts and cousins; special friends, Peggy Peterson, Kay Palmer, Michelle Hromyak, Mike Bell, Eddie Samples and Pam Carter.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock, p.m., Monday, November 21 st in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home with Rev. Danny McClure officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
