Joseph Blonsky

Mr. Blonsky, son of Paul and Mary Pronckevage Blonsky was born in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania on March 11, 1918. He grew up in the coal mining town of Tamaqua and enlisted in the Air Force in 1939. Just a few years later, during WWII, he served in the North Pacific including Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. While serving at Daniel Field in Augusta, he met the former Vivian Poland and they were married June 3, 1942. In 1952, he enrolled at Southern Technical Institute, where he received a mechanical engineering degree and in 1967, he was licensed to pilot single engine aircraft. For almost two decades, he continued serving in the U.S. Air Force Reserves while working for WESTVACO in the development of forestry management and harvesting equipment. Several patents to his credit were perefected during his career at WESTVACO. Following retirement from WESTVACO, he and his wife, Vivian returned to Double Branches where he maintained the equipment on their cattle farm. He was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church, Washington. No visitation is scheduled.
