Mr. John Russell Stokes, 84 of Savannah Lakes Vilage, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 2 nd at Self Regional Medical Center, Greenwood.
Memorial services will be held on Sat., July 6 th at 11 a.m. at The Lutheran Church by the Lake with Pastor Jim Kinsler officiating. A reception will follow in the church social hall.
Mr. Stokes, a native of Sumter, served in the U.S. Army Big Red 1 Infantry following WWII in Germany during the Berlin Airlift. In 1954, he graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a a diehard Gamecocks Fan for 59 years. He had lived in Birmingham and Atlanta where he operated a trucking company. Following retirement, he and his wife, Jean moved to Savannah Lakes Village. He attended The Lutheran Church By The Lake.
