Thomson, Ga. - Mr. John E. Stier, 89, of Chestnut Drive entered into rest December 13, 2009. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Jane Stier.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Edward O'Connor as celebrant. Interment will follow at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Scott Harvey, Dan Aerni, Greg Aerni, Tyler Greenfield, Bradley Stier and Charles Greenfield.
Mr. Stier was born in Beloit, Wisconsin and was the son of the late John M. Stier and the late Katherine Verstegan Stier. He was a graduate of Indiana University. Mr. Stier served in Africa, France and Germany during World War II with the U. S. Air Force. He retired as the controller for Uniroyal in Thomson after 35 years of service. Mr. Stier was also a very dedicated member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Thomson.
Survivors include his children; Kathy Aerni and husband Dan of Cincinnati, Ohio, Linda Harvey and husband Scott of Worthington, Ohio, Bob Stier and wife Cindy of Woodstock, Georgia, Joe Stier and wife Pat of Covington, Georgia, Anne Greenfield and husband Tyler of Kingsport, Tennessee; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society c/o Queen of Angels Catholic Church 1326 Washington Rd. Thomson, Georgia 30824.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 pm Tuesday, December 15, 2009 with a rosary service to immediately follow.
