John Ellis Hodges

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of John Ellis Hodges. John passed in his home in Tignall, Georgia, December 14, 2021 at the age of 71.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Stribling Hodges of Lincolnton, Georgia and his parents.

John was born in Sylvania, Georgia on February 28, 1950 to John Cassidy Hodges and Vallree Bazemore Hodges.  He grew up on the family farm where he had fond memories of hunting and fishing with his father.  After high school, John obtained his engineering degree from South Georgia Tech.  Upon his retirement as a project engineer from Georgia Pacific in 2001, he chose to move his family from Fayetteville, Georgia, to his favorite place on Lake Thurmond near Tignall. The lake is where he and Charlene had built a house and where fond family memories were created.

John was a simple man who enjoyed his retirement years at the lake. He took pleasure in his yard work and home repairs.  Fishing was especially fun when the grand-kids tagged along. His favorite activity was cooking.  You would often see him dropping off baked goods to neighbors and friends in town.  He will be remembered as a kind man who was always eager to help out or offer advice.

He is survived by his children, William C. Hodges (Michelle) of Payneville, Kentucky; Melissa Hodges Bentley (Justin) of Canton, Georgia; a sister, Glenda H. Blackmon (Harris) of Washington, Georgia; and four grandchildren:  Mattie-Rae Bentley, Lucas Bentley, Liam Hodges and Harper Hodges.

The family is asking in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
