John Greiger

John Greiger, a devoted family man, skilled handyman, and lover of the outdoors, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at his home in McCormick, South Carolina. Born on October 14, 1944, in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, John lived a life marked by humor, kindness, and a deep appreciation for nature.

John graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School in Pennsburg, Pa. in 1964. Immediately following his graduation, he bravely served his country in the US Navy, demonstrating commitment and discipline from a young age. His military service laid a foundation of resilience and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. He was employed by Trailmobile for a brief time and retired as a supervisor from Rheem Textile / Hoffman New Yorker for almost 30 years before retiring.

After many years living in the small town of Dushore, PA, John and his wife Judy chose to make McCormick their home from June 2015 onward, seeking the more temperate climate and embracing the community and natural beauty of the area. He was an active member of The Lutheran Church By The Lake and the SLV Rod and Gun Club, organizations that reflected his faith and love of the outdoors. John was very involved in the local Food Pantry and devoted many hours to community.

John was truly a man who found joy in both simple and engaging pursuits. He loved tinkering and was known far and wide for his adept handyman skills, always ready to fix or craft with a steady hand and thoughtful mind. A prankster at heart, John's humor brightened the days of those around him; he cherished telling jokes and sharing laughter.

His fondness for nature was a defining aspect of his life. An avid horseback rider, John, Judy and Penny would go on adventurous rides throughout Sullivan County. John often rode his horse to work and delighted in trail rides off the beaten path. He was passionate about fishing, pursuing bass and trout in ponds, creeks, and rivers with great enthusiasm. Deer hunting and all outdoor activities brought him a sense of peace and fulfillment. Boating on his pontoon was among his favorite pastimes, a tranquil retreat where he found contentment.

He also made a meaningful contribution to his community as a school bus driver, a role he embraced with dedication. Children adored him, a testament to his warmth and genuine care.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Peterson Greiger; his son, Jason Streby; his daughters, Penny Streby, Jennifer Greiger, and Cyndi Greiger; his sister, Fay Schroy and her husband David; as well as his niece, Kim Schroy, and nephew, Glen Schroy. His grandchildren Evan and Zachary, and new great granddaughter, Collyns. John loved and spent time with his grandchildren, Sean, Jasmyne, Jaxxon, John Paul and Sloane. John’s family was a source of great pride and joy for him, and he treasured every moment with them. John will be missed by his loyal companion, Zoey.

John Greiger’s life was one of good humor, devoted service, and spirited adventure. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and an enduring love for the world around him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
