John William "Bill" Dawkins

Mr. John William "Bill" Dawkins, 69 of Metasville Community, Washington entered into rest on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at his residence.

Mr. Dawkins, son of the late Johnny and Theressa Smith Danner Dawkins, was born in Wilkes County on July 31, 1953. During his early childhood, he lived in Tignall and grew up in Metasville. When he became old enough, he went to work in sawmilling and logging for a few years. Afterwards, he began a career with the Georgia Forestry Commission in the Taliferro- Wilkes District where he retired as a forest ranger. His pastimes included riding motorcycles, pontooning and he was an avid Georgia Bulldog and NASCAR fan. His favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.

Survivors include his sisters, Linda Shelton and husband Johnny of Washington, Gloria Jean Ulery of Dublin; brother, Rev. Larry Danner and wife Liz of Harrisonburg, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is being planned for Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 2:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church.
