John R. Allen, 93, Crawfordville, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on January 8, 2024.

John was born in Chicago, Illinois, grew up in Wisconsin Dells and lived most of his life in the Atlanta and Crawfordville area.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a Forester and a retired employee with the U.S. Forest Service.  John was Baptist by faith and a member of Jennings Baptist Church. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida and was a member of the American Legion Post #8.  John was an avid firearm, model train and car enthusiast, he also enjoyed reading, was very witty and loved spending time with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Katherine Stewart Allen; his parents, Edward R. "Bob" Allen and Helen Piquette Allen.  His survivors include his son, Dennis R. Allen (Diane); his grandchildren, Cheryl Allen Rhodes (Ryan), Ashley Allen Johnston (Matt) and Bryan Allen (Catherine); and his great grandchildren, Morgan Johnston, Blake Johnston, Emme Allen, Millie Allen, Avery Rhodes and Maverick Duwell.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Jennings Baptist Church Cemetery, Crawfordville, Georgia.  The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.  The service will be officiated by Rev. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #8, 141 Commerce Street, Crawfordville, Georgia 30631.
