Mr. Joseph Patrick "Joe" Coessens

Thomson, GA - Mr. Joseph Patrick "Joe" Coessens, 73, entered into rest February 5, 2016.

Mr. Coessens was a native of Amsterdam, N.Y. and the son of the late William Coessens and the late Josephine Weinschreider Coessens.  He was a graduate of Villanova University and a fourth degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He lived most of his life in western Pennsylvania before moving to Thomson last year.  After 36 years of service, Mr. Coessens retired as a Civil Engineer from the U. S. Steel Railroads.  He was a member of the Queen of Angels Catholic Church.  Mr. Coessens loved trains, playing golf, boating and bowling.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Coessens was preceded in death by his brother, William Coessens.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Coessens; son, Joseph Michael Coessens of Thomson; daughters, Deborah Gaither (Johnny) of Alabama and Kathy Davenport (Robert) of Thomson; grandchildren, Jessica McCuistion, Cassandra Coessens, Brandon Poe, and Robert (R.J.) Davenport.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 o'clock a.m., Tuesday, February 9th at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Monsignor Leo Herbert as Celebrant.  Interment will follow in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

It is the family's request that in lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P. O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or to a charity of donor's choice.

Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Rd., Thomson, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
