Mrs. Joanne Pollock, a devoted wife, mother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026. Born on April 13, 1935, in North Augusta, South Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of the late William Desmond and Florence Markert Beattie.
Joanne grew up in Augusta and graduated from Richmond Academy in 1953 and attended Augusta College. She married Charles Eugene Pollock on August 14, 1955, while he was a medical student at the Medical College of Georgia. Together, they embarked on a life journey marked by mutual support and devotion. Joanne worked for Dupont at the Savannah River Plant during the early years of their marriage, providing steadfast support to her husband throughout his medical training. They lived in Savannah for a brief time while he was completing his residency. In 1964, they made their home in Washington, Georgia, where her husband joined his brother in his medical practice. She dedicated herself to being a loving homemaker.
Joanne worked at Wilkes Academy for several years, a role through which she contributed significantly. Her commitment extended beyond the school and into her church, where she was an active and respected member of the First Baptist Church in Washington. Within the church, Joanne was part of the Frances Wheelis WMU and lovingly taught the Children’s Sunday School class for many years. Also, she served on the church history and heritage committee.
Joanne’s interests and hobbies reflected a life rich with curiosity and engagement. A passionate reader, she particularly treasured books on World War II history and was faithful patron of Mary Willis Library. She had a great love for the outdoors, cultivating her flowers with care and enthusiasm and mowing her lawn until the age of 85. She had a tremendous interest in genealogy, tracing her family roots back to Scotland and Germany. She cherished these connections, especially given that her grandfather was born in Scotland and migrated to Augusta. Joanne also enjoyed lively games of bridge and the challenge of jigsaw puzzles. At the age of 91, she still maintained an active lifestyle, driving and staying engaged with the world around her up until a week ago when she became ill.
Joanne was a valued member of the Kettle Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution underscoring her dedication to preserving history.
Her family was central to Joanne’s life. She is survived by her son, Chuck Pollock, and his wife Clare of Macon; daughters Pam Reese and her husband Mike of Lincolnton, and Susan Horn and her husband Jimbo of Watkinsville. Joanne also leaves behind a brother, Larry Beattie of Augusta. Her loving grandchildren—Will Reese, John Reese, Joe Reese, Burney Marshall, Trip Horn, Jack Horn, and Mary Jo Horn—and seven great-grandchildren.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Dr. Charles Eugene Pollock Sr., who passed away in January of this year. Their enduring partnership was a testament to lifelong devotion which extended to their family and friends.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed immediately by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Washington, located at 105 West Robert Toombs Avenue, Washington, Georgia. Private burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
Joanne’s grace, kindness, and steadfast love touched all who knew her. She was exceptional in every way and she leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family, faith, and community that will be remembered with profound respect and affection by those fortunate enough to have shared in her life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Bereavement Fund or the charity of your choosing.
Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Joanne Beattie Pollock.
