Jim Smith Thomson, GA- Mr. James Walker "Jim" Smith, Jr., 57, of Cedar Rock Rd. entered into rest December 14, 2013. The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Bill Williams as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Powell Bedgood, Ronnie Pilgrim, Lee Hammond, David Powers, Jim Pilgrim, Claude Mathis, William Hammond and Donald Reese. Mr. Smith was born in Sumter, SC and lived in Thomson, Georgia most of his life. He worked at Martin Marietta for 20 years and then went to Augusta Tech and graduated as a computer programmer. Mr. Smith worked as a purchasing agent with FPL Foods. He was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Jim loved his family more than anything in this world and was most known for his hugs and electric smile that lit up the room. Although his girls and Marsha were his pride and joy, his grandbabies: Little Buddy, Beautiful and Gorgeous were his heart and soul. He was very athletic and enjoyed various sports such as softball, golf, and bowling. He umpired both recreational and high school baseball for many years and was an inspiration to many and his family's hero. He loved to watch college football on Saturdays with his family. Roll Tide Roll! Survivors include his beloved wife, Marsha Pilgrim Smith; daughters, Tiffany Franks and husband, Jason of Warrenton, Stephanie Bonick and husband, Nathan of Lawrenceville, Brittany Brooks and husband, Mike of Thomson; parents, James Walker Smith, Sr. and Fay Parrish Smith of Thomson; brother, Jeff Smith and wife, Debbie of Elberton, sister, Dani McDaniel and husband, Tracy of Appling; three grandchildren, Jase Franks, Anistyn Bonick and Anna Beth Brooks and three Godchildren, Maggie Hinton, Johna Wright and Will Hammond. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m, Monday at the funeral home.
