Jerry Phillips

Mr. Jerry Phillips, 76, husband of the late Frankie Glaze Phillips of Aycock-Norman Road, entered into rest on December 18th at Wills Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Phillips, son of the late Rev. Captain Levi Phillips and Lucille Farmer Phillips, was a native of Hinesville, Ga. Following graduation from Bradford Academy in Hinesville, he attained a business degree from Bolen's Business University in Augusta. He married the former Frankie Glaze on June 14, 1957 and was employed by Georgia Railroad and its successors for over 24 years. During his career, he and his family moved to many places and he retired from Norfolk Southern while living in Cincinnati.

Following retirement from the railroad, he moved his family to Macon, Ga. and became involved in the Intermodal Transportation Sales Industry. In 1990, they moved to the family farm in Lincolnton. Shortly thereafter, he joined Lincolnton Baptist Church where he was involved in numerous capacities including the Men's Ministry and serving as a Deacon.  Also, he had been active in the Lincoln County Historical Society, having served as President. Recently he had been honored as Grand Marshal of the 2013 Lincolnton Christmas Parade for his civic and community involvement. For over ten years during the Christmas season, the Phillips family entertained thousands of visitors from all over the area  to their home which featured a decorated and lighted covered bridge. He was widely known for his skill in whittling miniature toys and replicas of farm implements, tools and other items. He was featured along with Lizzie Long and Little Roy Lewis in a video based on Tom T. and Dixie Hall's popular song entitled  "The Christmas Whittler."

He treasured his family and demonstrated his faith and love for God.
