Jerry was the son of the late Kellie Walter and Virginia Louise White Barnett. He was born in McCormick, SC on March 7, 1948. He grew up in McCormick but lived in Lincolnton most of his life. When he was younger, he was employed by the Iron Workers Local #709 as a rod buster. Throughout his life, he worked on various sites in the Southeast. Some of those include TVA projects, Savannah River Site and Richard B. Russell Dam. He and his brother, James owned and operated Barnett's Repair Service. He also worked for Southern Site Design in Augusta. Jerry was also known as "Uncle Jessie" by various friends and family. His knowledge of nature and his keen hunting ability scored him many trophy bucks, turkey and other wildlife. . Aside from hunting, he dearly enjoyed watching his son, Kenn play football. It is unlikely that he missed a single football practice and certainly never missed a game while his son played quarterback for the Lincoln County Red Devils. His three children were the pride of his life and he dearly adored his grandchildren. Jerry's friendship, love for his family and his sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew him. He was known to give everyone a nickname and when he nicknamed you what he wanted, it always seemed to stick and we'll leave it at that.
Survivors include the love of his life for 52 years, Kathryn Kennedy "Kathy" Barnett; son, William Kennedy "Kenn" Barnett and wife Rachel of Lincolnton; daughters, Kelli Sue Barnett of Cherry Grove, SC, Jerri Anne Barnett of Lincolnton and Kim "Manda" Mullins of Evans; brothers, James Barnett and wife Lou Ann of Lincolnton, Bob Barnett and wife Brenda, of Greenwood, SC and sister, Linda Brinkley of McCormick; grandchildren, Kennli Barnett Jones, Neely Kennedy Barnett, Benson William Barnett, Houston "Dawg" Mullins (his best friend and favorite buddy to hunt, fish and try not to get in TROUBLE with) and fiancé KiKi Webster, Southern "Samantha" Mullins Harris and husband Will; special family friends, Shana, Marleigh and Kinlou Smith and Boyd and Paula Tallent.
