Dorothy Jean Turmon Bufford, affectionately known as Jean to her friends and family, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on November 7, 2024, in her lifelong hometown of Washington, Georgia. Born on January 13, 1940, to the late Paul and Datez Noggle Turmon, Jean was a lifelong resident of Washington.

Jean was a graduate of Washington Wilkes High School, class of 1958, and her commitment to her faith and community was evident through her active membership at Washington First Baptist Church. She served diligently as the Women's Missionary Union director, Associational Acteens Director, and a Sunday School teacher, touching the lives of many with her unwavering dedication and service. Known for her kind heart and selfless nature, Jean was always ready to serve others. Her love for travel brought her joy, and Pigeon Forge held a special place in her heart as her favorite destination. Jean's life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit, and she lived out her beliefs through every act of kindness and every lesson she taught. Jean's love story with her beloved husband, Guy Watson Bufford, Jr., spanned 64 beautiful years until his passing in 2022. Together, they built a legacy of love and family, one that will continue to thrive through their children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Guy Watson "Buddy" Bufford, III and his wife Melanie Bryan Bufford of Athens, and Kenneth D. Bufford and his wife Sherree Partridge Bufford of Augusta. Her sister, Barbara Ann Tumon Harrison; grandchildren, Bryan Bufford, Kirk Bufford, Brett Bufford (Karen), Kayce Bufford Tyler (Eric), and Kimi Bufford; great-grandchildren, Atalie Bufford, Josey Bufford, Hudson Bufford, Eli Tyler, and Mattie Grace Bufford. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Paul Turmon, Jr. and sister Nettie John Turmon Nemeth.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
