Jay D. Hodgin

Jay D. Hodgin, 90, Thomson, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2025.

He was born in Horry County, South Carolina on January 23, 1935.  Jay moved to McDuffie County in 1952.  He was a faithful and devoted member of Thomson Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder.  He served his Country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a sales manager for Interstate Life and later American General for 43 years.  Jay's passion and love was spending time with his kids and grandchildren.  He coached Little League for 20 years and tried to attend every event he could as they grew up.  Jay even retired early so he could take care of one of his grandchildren.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and bird watching

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Delbert Hodgin and Curley Buffkin Hodgin.  His survivors include his devoted wife of 72 years, Rita Hodgin; his sons, Jay Hodgin (Brenda) and Scott Hodgin; his daughter, Grae Hodgin Turner (Brent); his sister, Eva Mae Lovett; his grandchildren, Scott Allen Hodgin of Statesboro, GA; Joshua Scott Hodgin of McGaheysville, Virginia; Whitney Nicole Koen of Halstead, Kansas; Graeson Shirley of Greer, South Carolina; Jesse Brent Turner of Simpsonville, South Carolina and fourteen great grandchildren.

His Graveside Service will be held at Westview Cemetery, Thomson, Georgia on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.  The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.  Please visit www.beggsfuneralhome.net to sign the family's personal guestbook.
