Mr. Thomas Jasper Thornton, 93 entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at his home in Lincolnton.
Mr. Thornton, son of the late Tom Colley and Nellie Ruth Gresham Thornton was born on February 14, 1930 in the Metasville Community of Wilkes County where his father ran a country store. At some point during his childhood, his family moved into Washington where his father built a new store known as T.C. Thornton Grocery. Sometime later, he and his brother operated it as Thornton Brothers Grocery. In addition, during that time, he also worked at Hopkins Funeral Home for almost 17 years. For a brief time, he was employed by Johnsie Berry Logging and then Burt Lumber Company where he served as the yard foreman for many years until retirement. He had lived in Lincolnton since 1996 and attended Martin's Crossroads Congregational Holiness Church. In his leisure, he enjoyed horseback riding.
Survivors include his wife, Felicia Ashmore Thornton; sons, Thomas Jasper "Bo" Thornton, Jr. (Patty) of Lincolnton, AJ Thornton and son Archie of Lincolnton; daughters, Beverly Thornton Howard (Lee) and Susan Thornton Rogers of Washington; grandchildren, Lauren Johnson (Russ) and Jill Rogers Guin (Chris) of Washington and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
At Mr. Thornton's request, there will be no public ceremony at this time.
