Thomson, GA- Mrs. Jane Dobbs Rogers, 75, of Washington Rd. entered into rest April 21, 2014 at University Hospital, Augusta.
Mrs. Rogers was a native of McDuffie County, Georgia and was the daughter of the late George W. Dobbs and the late Cornelia Pounds Dobbs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Garrett and an infant son, James Michael Rogers. She dedicated her life to public service, and was a pioneer in the EMS Community where she served as EMS Director of McDuffie County for 27 years and retired in 2006. Through the years, Rogers was a key part of the modernization of the Emergency Services in McDuffie County. Mrs. Rogers became an Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic Instructor, First Responder Instructor, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Instructor for the American Heart Association. She was trained in three levels of Disaster Life Support in Hazardous Material Awareness, and she participated in the Governor's Emergency Conference for the State Office of Homeland Security and the Washington D.C. Advisory Committee for Emergency Preparedness. She was one of the first women to be an EMS Director in the State of Georgia. Mrs. Rogers considered the EMS and her co-workers as family where they referred to her as Mama Jane. She was a faithful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with those she loved especially at Sunday dinners. Mrs. Rogers was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church, and a volunteer for the University Hospital McDuffie Auxiliary.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 60 years this November, James A. Rogers;
daughters, Lessie Elrod and husband, Roy of Harlem and Lisa Sanderlin and husband, Eddy of Appling and granddaughter, Nikki Langham of Evans, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. B. Redd officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Tim Edwards, John Graham, Gary Palmer, Gerald Davis, Glene Hill, Louie Kelley, Lawrence Bruce and Rhusha Mack. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present McDuffie County EMS.
Memorial contributions may be made to the University Hospital McDuffie Auxiliary, 521 Hill Street, Thomson, GA 30824  or to Sweetwater Baptist Church, 1666 Wrens Hwy, Thomson, GA 30824.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the funeral home.
