James Tuten

James E. Tuten, 84 of Lincolnton, Ga. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at his residence.

Born on August 16, 1941, in Richmond County, Georgia, he was the son of the late James B. and Ethel Hobbs Tuten. James grew up in the Harrisburg Community of Augusta and graduated from Richmond Academy where he began building the steady, hardworking character that would define his life. He carried those values with him into every chapter that followed, meeting each responsibility with honesty, determination, and quiet strength.

After graduation, James worked for Skinner Office Supply before entering the United States Army, where he served two years during Vietnam. During his Basic Training, he rushed home to ask his sweetheart, Virginia Widener, to marry him. The two eloped, and James returned to serve his country in the Infantry in Vietnam while Virginia returned home to her parents. For six months, they kept their marriage a secret, sharing a bond that was strengthened by distance, duty, and devotion.

When he returned home from military service, James began working with American Optical, Dr. Casella, and Lee Optical. Through hard work and a commitment to excellence, he became a Licensed Dispensing Optician. He later opened Jim’s Eye Care on Broad Street, where he served the community with skill and integrity for 30 years.

Nearly 40 years ago, James moved his family to Lincoln County, where he made his home for the remainder of his life. He was a nondenominational Christian whose faith guided him in daily living. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and he found great joy in the simple blessings of life. Above all else, his family was his heart. He loved them deeply and treasured the time they shared together. He was known as an honest and blunt man who expected honesty from others, and those who knew him understood that his straightforward nature came from a sincere and dependable spirit.

James is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia; children, Vic Tuten (Chris), James Tuten (Kristy), Tangy Tuten Danner; grandchildren, Beth Tuten, James Riley, Mathew Tuten, Brittany Hummel, Sean Tuten, Danielle Crawford, Lane Tuten, Shelby Mcleroy, Krislyn Tuten; great- grandchildren, Audree Colley, Wesley Hummel, Mateo Reyes, Paisley Tuten, Lily Tuten, Robert Mcleroy, Everleigh Crawford, Aiden Colley.

He was blessed to spend his final day surrounded by his entire family, who shared a celebration of life with him and were at his bedside when he passed away peacefully. That final gathering reflected the love, loyalty, and closeness that defined his life and the family he helped build.

No service is planned. His loved ones take comfort in knowing that he was surrounded by those who mattered most when he left this world. James E. Tuten will be remembered for his steadfast work ethic, his devotion to his country, his enduring love for his wife and family, and the honest life he lived with dignity and purpose. His memory will remain a lasting source of love and strength to all who knew him.

Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton is honored to serve the family of Mr. James E. Tuten.
