James Benjamin Johnson, 86, Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on February 23, 2022.
James was born in Warren County, Georgia on June 23, 1935, where he grew up but lived most of his life in McDuffie County. Mr. Johnson was employed by Knox-Rivers Construction Company for over 42 years and was the Asphalt Plant Manager when he retired. He was Methodist by faith and a member of First United Methodist Church, Thomson, Georgia. James enjoyed hunting, playing golf, gardening and was an excellent mechanic. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much and especially enjoyed Sunday gatherings with his family.
Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his parents, William Stanford Johnson and Eula Berry Johnson and his brothers and sisters, R.A. Johnson, Terrell Johnson, W.S. Johnson, Jr., Louise Chalker, Myrtice Cason, Doris Banks and Mary Frances McCord. His survivors include his devoted wife of 67 years, Martha Cook Johnson; his sons, Kenneth Johnson (Pam) and Ronnie Johnson (Sheilah); his grandchildren, Deana Keathley (Matt), David Johnson (Kellie), Benjamin Johnson (Emily), and Daniel Johnson (Jamie Lynn); and great grandchildren, Elliott, Grant, Rhett, Lydia, Jade, Hunter and Sara Reid.
His Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, and his Funeral Service, being officiated by Rev. Ronny Brannen, will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia with the interment at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens following the service. Pallbearers for the services are David Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Matt Keathley, Daniel Johnson, Alan Chalker and Keith Neal.
